Chester Cotten Instrumentation & Electrical

Dad worked as an electrician and lineman for the Federal Government, working in what is referred to as
civil service. He
started working as an electrician at the Orange, Texas, shipyards during WWII. He met his wife, Maudie,
there, who was the sister of his working partner at the Orange shipyards. He then transferred to the
San Jacinto Ordinance Depot in Channelview after the war. He worked there as an electrician and
lineman, eventually becoming the lead in the shop. The Ordinance Depot shut down, and he
transferred to NASA and helped bring NASA out of the ground as a facilities engineer. During this
time, he attended Lee College and received training in instrumentation and electronics. He brought
both his sons up in the electrical and instrument fields, one working his way through college as an
electrician, the other coming out of high school and beginning work in the instrument field, and
continues as a supervisor in one of the local plants. Dad would be happy to see young men and women
working in the electrical and instrument field, which he loved and respected so much.
