Rex Goodnight and Lois Elaine Couch

Rex Couch, a native Baytonian, graduated from Lee High School and fondly remembered his time in the choir and theatrical club at Lee College. He began his career with Humble Oil & Refining, retiring after 46 years. Originally from Oakman, Georgia, Lois worked for the Home Insurance Company and later at various insurance agencies, including Citizens Agency. She met Rex while serving in the Naval Reserve, and they married, eventually settling in Baytown. Both were active members of First Baptist and Memorial Baptist Church, where they taught Sunday school, participated in the choir, and took part in many church activities. After retiring to San Marcos, Lois’ Alzheimer’s diagnosis brought them back to Baytown, where she passed away in 2011 and Rex in 2018. Education was their priority, and they were proud when their daughter became the first in the family to graduate from college. This scholarship honors their memory.
